THE LAST PAUSE
The Fitz Roy Mountain Sanctuary is conceived as a sensitive architectural intervention along the route to Laguna de los Tres, in the vicinity of Mount Fitz Roy.
The main structure features an organic, cylindrical form inspired by terrain erosion and the soft geometries naturally found in the Patagonian landscape. Its compact, vertical shape creates a distinct landmark, serving as both a shelter from the elements and a wayfinding point for hikers.
Complementing the main volume, the project incorporates a transitional platform that extends and reorganizes the natural flow of the trail. This element is conceived as a fissure in the ground—a longitudinal opening that mimics the way the earth fractures to give rise to a new habitable space. Its organic geometry does not merely sit upon the landscape but emerges from it.
